PlayStation Nation - book - Image 1An Italian 13 year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after his father found him in a shocked stupor. The kid, one Lorenzo Amato, didn't seem to respond to anything around him - he couldn't even speak. Cue panicked father, sound the sirens.

Once rushed to the emergency room, the doctors first thought that the kid must have suffered from a stroke or some other serious brain impairment.

Eventually, the father described to the doctors that he discovered Lorenzo in this way after a PlayStation (not specified which kind of PlayStation) marathon for hours on end.

Antonio Buccoliero, a local politician in Italy, commented on the matter:

They eventually managed to take care of him once they understood that this was a strange kind of mental detachment connected to his PlayStation.

Again, they didn't seem to specify which kind of PlayStation.

From all indications, it seems that Lorenzo Amato has recovered from whatever mental shock he's been through (man, I wonder what he was playing at that time?). However, that doesn't mean he's on the greenlight. Apparently, he's scarred and traumatized for life.

The report explains that he asked his father to get rid of his PlayStation, saying that "I feel like throwing up if I even have to think about it."

» he must have played GENJI (lol sarcasm)

i was once addicted to the ps1, i played xenogears and metal gear solid for 2 months. i played for hours on end but since i play while im in bed, whenever im sleep i just turn off the tv, the play again when i wake up, i think i play an average of 12 hours a day or more. but that didnt traumatize me in any way.

i bet xbox 360 users will not experience this, their console will break before the person hehehe jk.

This happens to me pretty often while I'm writing a program, playing a game, or jacking off.

Yes, blame it on the video games.

I sense child abuse, and bullying him into saying ity was because of his video games

i second this opinion lol. its funny how videogames are always used as a scapegoat for the most ridiculous things.

 » And I

I second the opinion that you two were butsecs raped while little kids and that's why you grew up as frustrated ignorant turds who cannot properly read an article.

PS: For dumb*****s, when did anyone blamed this kid's condition on "the video games"?

"...this was a strange kind of mental detachment connected to his PlayStation."

This will read in the minds of most of the masses as being the playstations fault....

Myself, I beleive it to be some deeper neurological disorder...what it stemmed from, who knows, could have been child abuse, could have been mcdonalds...could have (most likely) been genetics....

What was he playing? Epic FPS of Doom: Extreme Gore Edition? Silent Hill 2: Uncut Director's Edition? What??

And what system? They didn't even release enough info, but this is great material for Jack Thompson, fanboys, and mindless anti-video game douches.

 » manhunt?!

Was he palying manhunt?! Anyway, learn self-control and self-discipline kid. And again, stop blaming playstation or anything that doesn't even move. haha. Blame a person like the kid's father OR if you want to file a lawsuit and hopefully earn some whooping amount of cash, then sue SONY. haha j/k. Again, stop blaming the games or video games in that sense. It's there to entertain us, not kill us like the cigarettes. Just self-control and self-discipline and I'm pretty sure you'll become a better person. (I wonder if the kid crapped on his pants though.) LOL

I feel sorry for his condition.

   Re: chessboxer - 2008-11-20
 » screw the stupid kid.

Maybe he was playing Haze and found out first hand how truly awful it is.

A good question to ask would be if the kid was old enough to be playing that particular game (although I don't believe that the game had anything to do with his condition - unless he was actually playing Haze).

   Re: Shatterdome - 2008-11-20
 » I must say...

I've pushed my mind to the limits with psychidelics with no problems, but even the Haze demo had me reeling....
